1. Acceptance of This Privacy Policy
By accessing or using Science In A Snapshot ("the Site"), you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Site. This policy applies to all visitors and users of the Site.
2. Data We Collect
Information you provide: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from your Google account. When you leave comments, submit ratings, or save favorites, that content is stored along with your user identifier.
Information collected automatically: We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymized usage data such as pages visited, time on site, browser type, and general geographic region. We also track aggregate view counts on images. This data helps us understand how teachers use the Site and improve the experience.
Google Workspace exports: When you use the "Save to Drive," "Export to Slides," or "Export to Docs" features, the Site requests permission to create files in your Google account. The Site requests the following Google API scopes:
drive.file— Allows the Site to create and access only the PDF files it saves to your Google Drive. This scope does not grant access to any of your existing Drive files.presentations— Allows the Site to create new Google Slides presentations containing exported lesson content. This scope does not grant access to any of your existing presentations.documents— Allows the Site to create new Google Docs documents containing exported lesson content. This scope does not grant access to any of your existing documents.
These permissions are requested incrementally — you are only prompted when you first use an export feature, and you can choose which features to authorize.
Choices: You may use the Site without signing in. Signing in enables features like commenting, rating, saving favorites, and Google Workspace exports. You can revoke the Site's access to your Google account at any time via your Google Account Permissions page.
3. How We Use Your Data
Personal information (name, email, profile photo) is used to display your identity alongside comments you post and to enable personalized features like favorites and ratings. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties for marketing purposes.
Usage information (analytics, view counts) is used in aggregate to understand site traffic, identify popular content, and improve the educational resources we provide. This data is not linked to individual users.
4. Data Sharing
Service providers: We use the following services to operate the Site:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, file storage, and hosting
- Google Analytics 4 — anonymized usage analytics
- Google Workspace APIs — creating files in your Drive/Slides/Docs when you request it
- Anthropic Claude API — AI-generated educational content (no user data is sent to this service)
- Web3Forms — contact form submissions
Social sharing: The Site includes links to share content on X (Twitter) and Bluesky. Clicking these links opens those platforms in a new tab — no data is shared with them until you choose to post.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or in good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with legal obligations.
5. Google API Data Usage & Limited Use Disclosure
Science In A Snapshot's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
What we access: The Site only accesses Google user data when you explicitly initiate an export action (Save to Drive, Export to Slides, or Export to Docs). We access your Google account solely to create new files on your behalf.
How we use it: Google user data is used exclusively to create the requested files in your Google Drive, Slides, or Docs. The Site reads the image content and educational text stored in our own database, formats it, and writes it to a new file in your Google account.
What we store: The Site does not store, cache, or retain any Google user data on our servers. No Google access tokens, file IDs, or account information are persisted beyond your active browser session. Once you close or refresh the page, all Google-related session data is cleared.
What we do NOT do with Google user data:
- We do not sell Google user data to third parties, advertising platforms, information brokers, or data resellers.
- We do not use Google user data for advertising, retargeting, personalized ads, or interest-based advertising.
- We do not use Google user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
- We do not transfer Google user data to any third party unless necessary to provide or improve the Site's features, comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger or acquisition (with prior user consent).
Revoking access: You can revoke the Site's access to your Google account at any time by visiting your Google Account Permissions page and removing "Science In A Snapshot." Revoking access does not delete files already created in your Google account — those remain yours to keep or delete as you choose.
6. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures provided by Google Firebase, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), secure authentication, and Firebase App Check to protect against abuse. While no system is 100% secure, we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
7. Children's Privacy
Science In A Snapshot is designed for K-5 educators, not for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.
8. Cookies & Local Storage
The Site uses cookies and browser local storage for authentication sessions, caching preferences, and analytics. Google Analytics may set its own cookies to track anonymized usage. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
